Our services and products we offer extend beyond providing refractions and prescribing eyeglasses and contact lenses. Being a therapeutic optometrist and a glaucoma specialist allows a much broader role in treating ocular diseases. Prescription eye drops are a daily occurrence and sometimes oral medication is prescribed for more complicated cases. Our services include a thorough, annual assessment of ocular health, an assessment of each patient’s medical health as it pertains to impact on vision, identifying vision problems during daily tasks and providing solutions to these problems through vision correction and particular lenses recommended, and also educating patients on preventative care concerning living healthy, protecting eyes from the sun, safety lenses, and wearing the latest technology in contact lenses.
Many times, optometrists are primary care doctors. I have many times detected diabetes and hypertension in patient’s eyes and was able to refer them to a physician to help and sometimes save their lives.
